If we take a good notice, we will see that the color of monument has two tone. Brighter at the lower part and darker at the higher part. This is because the pause of construction during the building.

The monument is so hugh. After building to 157 feet, funding was deficient and no money for continue building. So it was stopped building for about 17 yrs before continue building again. That's why the color of sand stone at the bottom is different from the color of sand stone which used to build in the 17 yrs later. Interesting, isn't it?
